What a Venetian-adopted Italian girl has to share as a good TIP about the arts in Italy?! I had the nice chance to be in touch with very interesting people here in Italy and some of them I have ALSO the beautiful luck to call as my friend. Laura is one of them, let me introduce you to the art historian from the Veneto who will share her TIP today.
Short BIO: Venetian resident, her favorite artistic media is painting and Henry Matisse is the artist on the top of her list – all because of his capacity of synthesize forms, the absence of perspective. She enjoys the cultural tourism, loves psychedelic music and her long coats.
“Take time to get lost, dare to turn the corner!” It may seems like an oblivious tip, specially for a city like Venezia, but when you get in Venezia you still meet a huge crowd around the same places: San Marco square and Riato Bridge, for example. But Venetian Laguna is formed by more than 115 small islands.
Laura´s tip is to do not underestimate the less known places, whether they are not as famous and as frequented as the main ones. There are places where you can still find the enchanting aura, despite the passing of the time. Torcello island is one of Laura´s favorite places in Venezia and I have also been there myself and I totally agree with her in this idea.
TORCELLO is a contraction of “Torre” and “Cielo” (words for tower and sky in italian) and it means exactly what it is: an island where you have an ancient tower surrounded by the amazing sky. You can arrive in Torcello by Vaporetto, the Venetian way of public transportation (google it). It’s a nice ride in the Laguna and you´ll see the byzantine church tower from far. It´s possible to visit both, the church and the tower where there is a view of the landscape in which Venice was born, centuries ago: the lagoon. Inside the church (Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta), furthermore, you´ll find an ancient, stunning mosaic representing the Last Judgement.

O que uma italiana “adotada por Veneza” tem para sugerir como uma boa dica de artes na Itália? Eu tive a chance de conviver com pessoas maravilhosas aqui na Itália e algumas delas tenho a sorte de chamar de amiga. A Laura é uma delas, e vou apresentá-la aqui. A historiadora de arte do Veneto é quem vai dividir sua dica de hoje aqui no blog.
BIO curta: Moradora de Veneza, sua expressão artística favorita é a pintura e o Henry Matisse é o nome que está no topo da sua lista – pela sua capacidade de sintetizar as formas, ausência de perspectiva. Ela curte o turismo cultural, ouve músicas psicodélicas e ama seus casacos compridos.
“Perca-se! Ouse virar a próxima esquina!” Pode parecer uma dica óbvia especialmente tratando-se de Veneza, mas quando você está passeando por Veneza percebe que os grandes grupos ainda concentram-se nos lugares mais famosos como a Praça São Marcos e a ponte Rialto. Mas a lagoa de Veneza é formada por mais de 115 pequenas ilhas.
Sendo assim, a dica da Laura é de não subestimar os locais menos famosos somente pelo fato de serem menos visitados que outros locais. Existem lugares que ainda matem uma aura encantadora em Veneza, mesmo com o passar dos anos. A ilha de Torcello é um desses lugares e eu mesma confirmo e concordo com a Laura nesta dica.
TORCELLO é a contração de ‘torre & cielo’ (palavras em italiano que significam torre e céu) e a ilha significa exatamente isso: uma torre no céu. Você pode chegar em Torcello de Vaporetto, o transporte público veneziano. É um passeio delicioso na laguna de Veneza e de longe você já enxerga a torre da igreja bizantina. É possível visitar os dois pontos: a igreja e a torre de onde você pode apreciar uma vista da paisagem onde Veneza foi construída há muitos séculos: a lagoa de Veneza. Dentro da Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta pode-se aprecisar um mosaico impressionante da época Bizantina com a representação do juízo final.
